Carpet Benefits for Illinois Living

With the region’s humid summers and frigid winters, it’s important to choose carpet with care, though its benefits are many.

A plush, warm carpet will keep your home comfortable during the chilly months, helping you weather the harsh winters. For multi-family living, carpet is a fabulous insulator and guards against noise.

Regular vacuuming and occasional deep cleansings will help your carpet stay at the top of its game and protect against seasonal allergies.  Best of all: your carpet’s insulating abilities mean you stand to save big on your heating bill in the wintertime (and on your air conditioning usage in the summer months).

Best Types of Carpet

Carpet fibers, which we in the industry refer to as “carpet pile,” determines how each carpet type looks and feels.

Carpet pile is made from synthetic or natural fibers. It pays to know what you’re truly looking for in terms of looks, needs, and features. Ultimately, you should choose a carpet type that works with your space and lifestyle.

There are five different types of carpets to choose from:

  • Nylon is a popular synthetic pile that’s soft and durable. Most nylon carpets need treatment to tackle daily stains but work well once treated.
  • Polyester is more affordable synthetic that’s often compared to nylon, as it has a similar look and feel. Modern polyester has come a long way from the shoddy products of the past and many are comparable in terms of function.
  • Olefin is a synthetic pile often found in Berber carpets. Made for looks more so than function, choose olefin for quiet, formal spaces like your living room.
  • Triexta is a heavy-duty synthetic that’s already resistant to stains. It can be used in commercial spaces, on stairs, or any busy spot.
  • Wool is a natural carpet pile that’s extremely colorful, warm, and soft. A natural insulator, wool is a great choice if you suffer from allergies or want to save on utility costs.

In addition to your carpet’s pile, rugs can be woven in various methods. Pay attention: each weave works in different ways when it come to footsteps and furnishings.

  • Cut-pile carpets mean the looped fibers on your carpet backing are trimmed at varying lengths and twists.
  • Loop carpets mean the loops of your fibers are left intact.
  • Cut-loop carpets are the most textured products since they merge both cut and looped fibers on a single backing.

Can I Have Carpet if I Have Kids or Pets?

You sure can!  There are many, many modern carpet options made to resist the most stubborn stain offenders.

Life sure is messy at times, but the things that comfort us haven’t changed. Fortunately, technology has gifted us with a huge range of stain-resistant carpets that you can count on to keep stains from sinking in.

Stain-resistant carpets come in all your favorite colors and styles, but they’re made to manage the toughest accidents. Each fiber is treated to keep colors and softness in, and pesky odors and stains out.

Cleaning stain-resistant carpet is simple: just wipe away spills when you see them. Most of the time you’ll just need a clean towel and a bit of water to remove every trace. Enjoy stain-resistant carpet everywhere, in all types of residential and commercial settings.
